Mt Harvard
Susi and I have decided to take some time off from technical rock climbing and do some hiking in the Colorado mountains. We contacted Jim and Candice two friends we haven't seen in a long time to see if they would like to join us for some backpacking. Jim suggested that we do the hike prior to the Labor Day weekend to avoid the crowds. Jim was exactly correct because we only encountered one other hiker during the entire hike. We left the parking lot located in the San Isabel National Forest at 7:00 a.m. and began the 6.5 mile hike to the summit of Mt Harvard which is Colorado's third highest mountain at an elevation of 14,420 ft or approximately 4,300 meters. All four of us summited the mountain with perfect weather and got to enjoy lunch at the summit. We chose Mt. Harvard because a few years prior I attempted to climb the mountain with Jim and Chris and well let's just say I lost my lunch on the way to the summit and didn't make it. We camped at approximately 11,000 ft and are going to attempt to summit Mt. Columbia tommorow....well see if the weather holds.
